I don’t know about you ladies, but trying to stay on trend these days can be a bit stressful, and not to mention very costly. With the state of the world, most of us are being very cautious about where we spent our money, as we should, but this doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a good ole shopping day. We just have to know when and where.
As I stated most of us are being very cautious on where we spend our money, which bring me to this breakdown.
THRIFT SHOPPING
I was never a fan of thrift shopping because the mere thought of wearing something that was already worn wasn’t my thing. I personally think it had a lot to do with being from NYC and pretty much having every type of clothing at my fingertips, so I didn’t feel the need to shop at a thrift store, but here we are. Here are a few things you should always be on the lookout for.
- Oversized mens blazers
You can never go wrong with an oversized blazer, and since oversize clothing is in, these will be your best friend any time of year. If you do happen to find a few great ones at the thrift store, quickly grab them up and move on to the next section. You’ve officially hit the jackpot!
Try styling it with shorts, a skirt, a dress, or depending on your height, you can style it as a dress. The options are endless, but make sure you do have a few in your wardrobe.
2. Oversized mens button up
This is another great find that would be great for the spring and any other season. Oversized button-up skirts can be worn in many ways, that include tied up with some jeans, as a dress, or even with some good ole leggings. It can even be taking from a day outfit to a night even, so again the options are endless. I would opt for oversized over a slim cut fit, this way you can get more creative with styling it and more wears out of it.
CONSIGNMENT SHOPS
Now and days we not only have Brick & Mortar consignment shops, but we also have online consignment shops, and let me tell you! I have found the most amazing pieces online. For me, it’s a little easier to shop online, but that’s just my personal opinion. I do find it a little more fun going into an actual Brick & Mortar since people bring things in every day, and you never know what you may find that day.
- Womens Purses
A quick tip, try shopping at consignment shops in wealthier neighborhoods. Personally, I think those women shop so much and never get to wear most of their clothing, so they sell them. This is a win for those of us that shop on a budget. You can literally find pretty much any designer bag on the market these days. Brands like Chanel, Celine, and Louis Vuitton are my favorite finds. I would recommend going for those if you find them as they never go out of style, and seem to do really well on the re-sell market.
2. Womens Shoes
If you wear a size 9, 10, or even 11 you may find yourself in shoe heaven. Again those higher-end neighborhoods will be your best friend. Most shoes are either lightly worn or spanking brand new, so it’s the luck of the draw.
3. Vintage Clothing
Most people overlook vintage clothing these days simply because they think they are outdated. Let’s be honest, a lot of new designers do get their inspiration from the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s, so there’s definitely something to be said about vintage clothing.
So, when you do find vintage clothing at a consignment store you’ll never pay full price and that’s the best part.
ACCESSORIES
You can have on the most basic outfit, with some amazing jewelry, and go from blah to chic in minutes. That’s the key to looking chic on a budget.
Most of my accessories do come from NYC street vendors, who were of African descent. They would have the most beautiful brass bracelets, necklaces, and earrings that would last for years. All it takes is a little Brasso to get them looking like new in minutes. This is one reason why I tend to lean towards brass jewelry because of its longevity. With that, this is another budget-friendly way to stay stylish on a budget. Here are some must-haves!
- Sunglasses 4. Bracelets 7. Rings
- Belts 5. Necklaces
- Earrings 6. Watches
So picking up some unique jewelry from your local street vendors, consignment shops or thrift shops can definitely add some pizzaz to your jewelry collection.
Now get to shopping and have fun!
