As a woman who loves fashion and started her own styling company for women who struggled with finding their style, I’ve always felt that movies were the best place to get inspiration from, well at least one of the places.
I have drafted a few of my top favorite fashion movies that every fashionable girl must-see.
Let’s jump right into it!
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA
Base on the life of Anna Wintour so they say, Mel Strep played the heck out of this role. As for her co-star Anna Hathaway who my focus will be on, she went from the little innocent everyday girl to a fierce woman dressed in Chanel. This is the typical New York City Girl Fashion. Dressed in trench coats, knee-high boots, pumps, dressed in designer accessories, and more. You’ll sure to get some fashion inspiration from this film.
MAHOGANY
Who doesn’t love Diana Ross! In this film, she was a struggling design fashion student who goes from rags to riches when she had the chance to meet the hottest fashion photographer in a dept store. Diana’s style and design were impeccable but her attitude and diva ways got in the way of her relationship with actor Billy Dee Williams as well as her respect in the fashion industry. All in all, she was extremely talented with her designs but it went to her head, way too quickly and people did not take a liking to it.
PRETTY WOMAN
Another rags to riches movie, A modern-day Cinderella Julia Roberts (Vivian) was a streetwalker in Beverley Hills and meets this wealthy businessman who eventually falls for her. Throughout the movie her co-star Richard Gere (Edward) spoils her but, it starts by him paying her to do a job, be his date for the weekend. Edward decides to take Vivian on a shopping spree on Rodeo Drive and let me tell you the clothes that she picked were meant for rags to riches story. My two favorite outs were the white dress with the huge brim hat and the simple polka dot dress. Both are very different but very in today and classy.
SEX IN THE CITY
By far one of the best fashion movies today, Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlette all had great style but in their very own way. Carrie was more on the daring side but very NYC her style was sometimes runway to me but not over the top. Samantha who was my personal favorite was more of a Chic Classy style but not boring. She carried each outfit and owned it. Miranda had more of a corporate style but when she did switch it up it gave me a little bit, of the fierce working woman. As for Charlette, she is more of a safe one I would say when it came to fashion. Still very cute but safe. So, ladies grab some popcorn and a blanket this weekend and watch part 1 and part 2.
BREAKFAST AT TIFFIANY’S
Aubrey Hepburn played a very high-paid escort and searching for an older rich man to marry. She wasn’t into younger men until she meets a younger gentleman who himself dated a wealthy older woman so they were both all about the Benjamin’s. With her infamous little black dress and her cute cigarette pants, you’ll surely find something you loved that she wore. I loved the black dress and gloves. Very sexy and sophisticated for a quick dinner or play with that special someone. So, if don’t already have your little black dress, go get one. It’s a wardrobe staple and a must-have.
Those are just a few movies the 50 movies I love to pull fashion inspiration from.
